Pravidla

    • Official beer pong table — 240×60×70 cm
    • Cups: 2×10 or 2×6 plus 2 water cups
    • 2 ping-pong balls (30/40 mm)
    • 4 beers (0.5 l) or 2×0.5 l beer and 2×0.5 l water
    • Water
    • 4 players
    • Two teams of two stand opposite each other at the ends of the table. Each team has 6 or 10 cups in front (depending on the tournament format). Each team pours two beers into their cups (0.1 l per cup).
    • The variant common at European tournaments uses 10 cups: six with beer and four with water in the back row. Nobody is required to drink beer cups.
    • Teams choose the variant at our events.
    • Two remaining cups are filled with water for rinsing the ball before each throw. Cups are arranged in a triangle of ten or six (see Cup placement). Teams play rock–paper–scissors; the winner gets one ball and opens with one throw. Then the other team throws and each player has one throw.
    • Players alternate throws within a team. If player 1 hits and player 2 misses, the other team throws. If both hit, the same team throws again once. Any player may throw, but every third throw must alternate. The defending team removes a hit cup before the next throw.
    • Players stand always behind their edge of the table when throwing. No reaching over cups, no walking to the side or toward opponents. Do not move the table or cups or blow at the ball. Opponents may distract behind their edge within reason.
    • Both feet must stay on the ground when releasing the ball.
    • If you knock over your own cups and the opponent does not notice and you reset them, nothing happens. Otherwise they count as hit.
    • Absent opponent. If a player leaves during a tournament, play continues without them. The short-handed team has only one throw per turn until they return — if they do not return, they forfeit 5:10 and are eliminated.
    • Remove the cup the ball lands in. Rearrange formations (per diagram) when 6, 3, or 1 cups remain.
Cup formations with 6, 3, and 1 cups on the table
    • Formations stay centered on the table. The last cup stays in the middle at the end of the table.
    • Re-racks happen on request from the throwing team. Opponents must align cups per rules — tight spacing, no overhang.
    • Remove hit cups immediately even when no re-rack is needed. The throwing team must wait while cups are removed or re-racked. Throwing during removal or re-rack counts as a miss. Hitting a cup already removed counts as a miss.
  • Overview of throw types — arc, straight, and off the table
    1Arc
    2Straight
    3Off the table
    • You may block after the ball touches a cup or the table. On table throws, opponents may block. A hit removes two cups — the hit cup and the front neighbor.
    • If you declare at the start that you will only throw off the table, opponents must accept it and may not swat balls. Hits then count as one cup only.
    • Players should alternate drinking cups. Play continues until one side has no cups left.

    Redemption on 1 cup

    • The losing team may attempt redemption.
    • With one cup left, use one or two balls depending on how the last cup was closed.
    • A successful redemption ties the game.
    • If the tie affects advancement, play a deciding match on 3 cups per side. The team whose last cup was hit throws first.

Redemption on 2 or more cups

    • The losing team may attempt redemption.
    • With 2+ cups left, the redeeming team gets one unlimited ball: one shot at a time, another shot after each hit, immediate loss on a miss. Players must alternate throws — one player cannot take all redemption shots. Exception: on three cups, players alternate on the first two throws; either player may take the last.
    • A successful redemption ties the game.
    • If the tie affects advancement, play a deciding match on 3 cups per side. The team whose last cup was hit throws first.
    • Rinse the ball before every throw, even if it did not touch the floor.
    • After an illegal block, drink one cup.
    • If the ball bounces off a defender into a cup, or they knock it in while catching, it counts as a hit.
    • If a cup is knocked over on a clear in-shot (ball spinning inside), it counts as a hit. If the ball only grazed the rim and knocked the cup over, replace the cup — no re-throw.
    • If the ball slips from your hand on your half of the table, into your cup, or onto the floor, re-throw. If it crosses the center line, it is a miss.
    • If the ball deflects off spectators or anyone other than an opponent, repeat the throw.
  • The points below apply only within a single event — for group standings, qualification, and play-off seeding.

    Group stage — standings points

    • Win at 10:x — the loser did not reach 10 cups: winner 3 points.
    • Win after both sides reached 10 cups (e.g. 11:10 or higher): winner 2 points, loser 1 point.
    • Draw (not used in practice): 1 point each.
    • After groups, teams are ranked by points, head-to-head, and tiebreakers; that order decides who advances and their seed.

    Play-off

    • In the bracket, only match results decide until final placement is known.
    • Forfeit win (opponent absent / does not return): winner 3 group points, score 10:5 (see absent player rule).
